Picky Presents: Great Gifts Real People Love {Dedicated Post}

PickyPresents

The Gift Insider is always looking for new ways to help you find the perfect gift, especially gifts that people will be happy to receive! Recently we’ve fallen in love with Picky Presents – a website that makes gift searching easier by showing you the latest and greatest gifts people are getting each day, in near-real time! Picky Presents scours the web, monitoring various sites to discovering which gifts people have recently received. The unique part about Picky Presents is that they only feature gifts that people have actually received, and of these, Picky Presents picks out only the gifts people genuinely appreciate. Picky Presents lessens the stress with gift-giving by allowing you to see how people have responded to receiving various gifts.

Picky Presents Andrew Cuga says,  “this unique method of finding gifts enables them to pick out items that didn’t even know existed such as an Aebleskiver pan!” In addition to this, Picky Presents has the ability to correlate gifts, such as seeing which gifts are commonly given together. Similar to The Gift Insider, Picky Presents has a filtering feature which allows you to match a gift to the exact person you have in mind, like geeky guys and fashionable ladies.

As the holiday season approaches, Picky Presents is the go-to spot to see real reviews on presents that have been given. Visit Picky Presents at: http://www.pickypresents.com

Gift-Giving Expert Tips // Office Gifting

Screen shot 2013-03-13 at 8.35.21 PM

Forget the booze- Alcohol can be a touchy subject. Avoid giving officemates booze unless you know for a fact that they drink alcohol! Wouldn’t you rater be safe than sorry?

Don’t be afraid to give DIY gifts- Why not make the gift yourself? Pinterest, one of our favorite sites, is full of personal DIY gift ideas on both ends of the price spectrum. DIY gifts express that you put both thought and effort into creating a unique gift for a special person!

Include a gift receipt if possible- Okay, so not every gift is a perfect match, but that’s nothing to be offended by! Why not eliminate the fuss of difficult exchanges for your gift receiver and get a gift receipt along with the gift? Tape it to the side of the box so it can be seen, but isn’t too obvious.

Don’t wait until the last minute- Try to avoid last minute purchases. People can tell if you just threw something together right before work. We believe a gift is something that should make someone feel special, so plan ahead and don’t take the easy way out.

Be aware of food allergies- Are you infamous for your chocolate chunk cookies? Baked goods are a great gift to give, especially during the holiday season, but make sure to be mindful of food allergies. You never want to give a gift someone can’t enjoy! Gluten free chocolate chunk cookies anyone?

*Check out our favorite delicious goodies that will be sure to satisfy any sweet tooth and tickle any foodies’ heart.

Wrap your gifts with pizzazz- Make your gift even more exciting to open by wrapping it in an innovative and fabulous way. Check out our Pinterest board with TONS of packaging suggestions or our time saving gift-wrapping tips!

The person who has everything- Why not give back while giving? Consider giving a donation in someone’s name to a charity. A “feel-good” gift to give.

Don’t go too overboard- So, you love gifting like we do? Unfortunately sometimes in an office setting you must be aware of how your gifting techniques reflect on your personality. You don’t want to be viewed as the “brown-noser” of the office!

Hey TGI readers- Can you think of a time when you found yourself in an interesting office-gifting situation? Let us know!

TGI Tips: 5 Dad Gifts You Can Give Last Minute

While we don’t recommend waiting until the day-of to find a gift for Dad, for the years it inevitably happens, here are some thoughtful ideas you can send, print or give last minute. And we mean literally, five minutes before brunch.

Trunk Club Last Minute Gift

1.  A New Wardrobe in a Trunk –  Leave picking out clothes for Dad to the professionals. Give him a printable gift certificate to TrunkClub, a company that does his shopping for him and delivers in a trunk right to his door (he can conveniently send back anything he doesn’t like.)

2. iPhone/iPod Apps – Does Dad have all the gadgets but no clue what to do with them.  Help him out and download some apps from iTunes for him that fit his interests. iTunes.com

3. Box of Awesome – Give dad a subscription to Bespoke Post and they will send a “Box of Awesome” handpicked with cool and curated products to Dad each month. Give 1, 3 or 6 months. Their Junes box is s a collaboration with DETAILS Magazine and full of summer essentials like foldable sunglasses.

4. Personalized Magazine Cover – Pick Dad’s favorite hobby (Golf, Fishing, Hunting, etc) upload a photo a photo of him to YourCover.com and choose funny headlines to make him the star of his own magazine.  Print out on you computer and find an inexpensive frame at your local drugstore. $12.95 + frame.

 5. Of-the-Month Clubs – Whiskey of the Month Club, BBQ of the Month Club, Sock of the Month Club. These subscriptions keep on giving, look thoughtful but really can be ordered a couple hours before it’s time to head out the door.

We all know EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU have waited until the last minute to find a gift at some point … tell us what you have scrounged up before you needed to head your annual Father’s Day gathering?  Comment below or on our Facebook page.

Guys to Give Guys – Sports Trash Talk

We get it, we get it.  Sometimes it doesn’t feel like the most manly of activities to research, purchase, wrap and deliver a special gift for your buddies…
That’s why this manly, trash talking service is the perfect “gift” for sports loving, high-fiving, beer guzzling men.
Rivalgrams.com will have a real person call your bud and talk trash about any team, any sport.  You can customize calls or make it anonymous.  They’ll brag about your sick quarterback, play your teams fight song, or celebrate a big touchdown and really get under the skin of your rival buddies favorite team.

Prices range from $1.25 – $2.25 and for $10 you can have them call your buddy every day for 20 days leading up to the big game.
This is a fabulous idea I found on Netted by the Webbies

Creative Gift Ideas for Friends’ Birthdays in Chicago

Traditional gifts don’t always cut it for the girls who have been most important in your life.

TAKER HER OUT FOR A GIRLS NIGHT ON THE TOWN

  • Before you hit the clubs, take her to one of the new trends in the salon industry – they specialize in Blow Dry’s only.  If you are in Chicago – try Blo Dri. They’ll make it super special and add in champagne, cocktails or cake.
  • If she has a sense of humor, take her to a burlesque or tranny show, if you are in Chicago check out The Baton Club
  • Throw her a surprise party or a surprise dinner – add in some fun extras like these funny/inappropriate Happy Fing Birthday Hats ir.gif
  • Or this way-chicer-than-average pinata.

MAKE HER SOMETHING

My personal favorite idea for making your friend feel as special as she is – make her something that she will cherish forever.  While I have been a fan of this idea since long before digital camera’s – now, your macbook can make it easier than ever.

  • Make here a comic book w/ comiclife on yourmacbook with quotes from all the girls.
  • Make her a photo flip book she can carry on her keychain
  • Make her a Photo Book from Picabooshow.gif
  • Make her a customized Jenga set – on each cube write something that you and your girlfriends must do when you pull out the block – chug a beer, text your ex, etc.
  • Make her a book filled with reasons you love her (make it even more special and have the number of reasons be the age she is turning).

HIT THE BEAUTY BAR

A few of my girlfriends surprised me for my birthday this year by taking me to The Beauty Bar.  It’s a trendy and fun place to take any girl who loves her martinis and mani’s – both of which are included in the price of one delish (but strong) Beauty Bar Martini.  The sparkly teal walls, the dance floor in the back and the completely beauty inspired hipster scene make it a perfect spot for a girls night out.

Beauty Bars are currently in Chicago, New York, San Fran, LA, Texas, Vegas and Denver.

http://www.thebeautybar.com

TAKE HER BY SURPRISE

If your bestie is someone who loves surprises, give her what she wants on her birthday and don’t give her the slightest clue of what you are doing. Kidnap her, blind fold her and then take her to do something she wouldn’t normally do.

  • Beer/wine making class
  • Tarrot card reader/hypnotist
  • Mani’s and Pedis at a BYOB nail salon
  • Cooking Class
  • Surprise brunch (mimosas and bloody’s included)
  • Talk to some of your out of town friends and family, arrange for them to come in town for her big day
  • Take her to a comedy show – try Second City in Chi.

The key to this one is knowing what she likes. Make sure to pay attention a few weeks before her birthday – is there anything she’s been dying to do? A place she’s been dying to try? It’ll be even more special if she knows you’ve been thinking of her.

LAST MINUTE?

Send her a birthday cake overnight – Gourmet Birthday Cakes from Bake Me A Wish!show.gif
Give Her a Gift Certificate From Experience Days and Let Her Pick – Shop-XD-Memorable
Everyone loves flowers – ProFlowers – Send ProFlowers starting at $19.99

Chicago Pillow from a Chicago Shop

This Chicago themed pillow will definitely liven up anyone’s average old couch.

You can find this hand embroidered gift at a shop in Northbrook Court Mall called Royal Appointments.

They are pretty much a one stop shop for gifts of all sorts – great place to head if you’re stuck last minute without a gift.  If you have a little more time, they have lots of great items you can personalize as well.
