TGI Parties: Hosting a Mama-to-be-Tea

I decided to host a little get together for some pregnant girls in our area and thought a “mama-to-be tea” party would be the perfect way to do it. I had all the girls come over on a Sunday afternoon to relax and chat about all things baby and all things pregnancy. Think we may make it a monthly tradition!

IMG_4442

I stocked up on 4 different types of Tazo teas, both caffeine-free and regular, a Pregnancy Tea I found on Amazon and some lemon, stevia and sugar cubes. I had my favorite bottles of mini Pelligrinos on hand and finally found an excuse to use the pretty bud vases I got as a wedding shower gift.

IMG_4435

I used formal china for the tea cups but kept everything else pretty casual. The Anthropologie pitcher is no longer available, but I use every time I entertain and it’s one of my absolute favorite wedding gifts.

IMG_4447

Our living room in our new home is finally complete so I loved being able to comfortably relax and fit 8 girls casually in this space. I scored these blooms from Trader Joes.

IMG_4505

Now for the food!

IMG_4470

I made caprese skewers and fruit skewers so everything was easy to eat as finger food. I made life easy on my preggo self and bought macaroons and desert bites from the frozen section of Trader Joes.

IMG_4481

The sandwiches were the only time consuming part but definitely a key component of any tea party. I made three different pregnant-friendly (no deli meat) sandwiches: 1. cucumber + cream cheese 2. chicken salad + apple 3. cucumber + cream cheese + dill

We’d love to hear any fun things you did with your pregnant friends! Tell us in the comments below.

TGI Parties: The Gift Insider Turns 30!

I celebrated the big 3-0 on Saturday October 15th this year (I lucked out with the Saturday, right?!) I wanted to do something a little different than your typical dinner party, so we decided to throw a loft party for 50 of our friends in downtown Detroit. We were going for a chic yet casual cocktail party vibe so we rented a raw industrial space and had apps, desert, plenty of cocktails and music. Thanks to the amazing crew who came out, and my hubby for making it all happen.

Below are some photos and links to where we found all the party goods!

img_2073

The event space we found was Orleans + Winder in Eastern Market. We loved working with them and highly recommend if you are looking for a raw space downtown. It was chic from the start, so no matter how we decorated the space had exactly the vibe we were going for.

img_2080

img_2070

We found the tassel balloons at ConfettiHaus on Etsy. The raw wood tables and gold mirror we rented from the event space and the striped table clothes we had from a past shindig.

img_2069

I know, I know the mylar number balloons are getting a little overdone…but I couldn’t help myself. I added little tassels on the bottom to make them extra special.

img_2079

The gold glitter Sweets, Drinks and Eats signs we reused from our engagement party a few years ago. Turns out it’s a great investment to have if you throw lots of parties! We’re big fans of the “naked cake” trend and loved trying one out for the first time.

img_2163

The man who kept the drinks going all night long, Glen! Highly recommend splurging on help if hosting your own party so you can relax and have fun with your guests. Spotted! One of our favorite wedding gifts, our Lindsay + Jon champagne bucket. We have used this countless times.

img_2159

We found the perfect gold plastic silverware on amazon (obsessed!) and art decor plates from Target. We served mediterranean style apps and a Brushetta bar and the most-loved last-minute decision by hubby, boxes on boxes of Supinos pizza.

img_2072

The 30 Pinata we got from ThePerfectPinata on Etsy and used for decor and as a Photobooth prop later in the night.

img_2195

A party ain’t a party without the perfect photo backdrop! We have been obsessed with these grown up Pinatas from Chiciata and finally had the perfect party to use them for. We used the raw wall and framed a perfect photo-opp spot right when guests walked in.

img_2068

Here’s a shot of the photo backdrop, we also had a few triangle garlands to fill it out.

img_2320

We had photo props and a refurbished Poloroid Camera with polaroids for guests to take and take home.

img_2310

img_2317   img_2150

I couldn’t have imagined a better way to celebrate this milestone! We’d love to hear some of the creative ways you guys have celebrated your milestone birthdays in the comments below!

Party Must-Haves for The Best Bachelorette Party Ever

Wedding season is right around the corner, which means bachelorette & bachelor parties are about to be in full swing. Whether you are heading out for a relaxing spa weekend in Napa or hitting the clubs in Vegas, TGI is here to give you party essentials to plan the perfect bachelorette party. If you need more inspo, check out last years post on my own Miami Bachelorette weekend.

The “Oh Shit Kit”

Oh-Shit-Kit_0011

Every smart party planner knows that the day after is never fun. These “Oh Shit” hangover kits are cute and key to a long weekend. Have a fun bag stuffed with your favorite hangover cures for each of the guests.

*TGI Suggestions: Advil, Tic Tacs, Wisps, Eye Drops, Mini water bottles, Hangover Joes Hangover Shots

“To Have and To Hold- Your Hair Back” Hair Ties

Bachelorette Hair Ties

If the party is a success, majority of you will need to tie your hair up at some point (either due to dancing the night away or because the bride is praying to the porcelain god). Either way, these hair ties are a cute, functional, and customizable.

“Mini Crown” For the Bride-To-Be

il_570xN.578951856_1jc6

It’s important for the bride to stand out but if she’s not so much the fake veil type, these mini crowns are perfect. Understated yet just sparkly enough to catch everyone’s eye.

Personalized Quizzes

2db4c9c65d24b45ecbbd5fb558c75c3e

No bachelorette party would be complete without a couple of games. Create a custom quiz that tests the guests’ knowledge of the special couple. Start the night off by handing each guest one of these and see who knows the bride best.

Custom Tanks

For a bachelorette weekend, matching tank tops are a great keepsake. Let the jokes on each top reflect each guest and reminisce on old memories while also creating new ones.

Temporary Tattoos

Gift each guest one of these funky custom tattoos. They may actually end up being a lifesaver if one of the bridesmaids ends up being a tad over-served…

“Kisses From Your Bitches”

At the end of the weekend, have each girl kiss a canvas. Once you are home get it framed and then give it to the bride. We promise every bride will be thrilled to receive this personal and sentimental keepsake that commemorates her “last” wild weekend.

TGI Tip: Try to get each girl to wear a different shade of lipstick. The multiple shades will make for fun and colorful home décor.

What The Gift Insider Registered For: Macy’s Registry Series

As a newlywed and professional gift expert, I thought I’d offer a little guidance and insight into how we tackled the registry process and what we learned along the way. We partnered up with the folks at Macy’s and we’ll be sharing a series of posts focused on: gifts we chose, gifts we wish we had chosen, the latest registry trends and some essential registry must-haves.

First up — a peak at what the hubby and I registered for.

Macys_Collage_WhatTheGiftInsider4

We took a more casual approach to our registry and focused on mixing and matching patterns, textures, metallics and finding pieces that we loved that we could use for both entertaining and everyday. We made sure to add in some quirky and personalized items, a few pops of color and some keep-forever items that we knew we’d never splurge on for ourselves (e.g. a pistachio KitchenAid & crystal candlesticks.)

———

1. Marquis by Waterford Vintage Ice Bucket ($79):

We loved this entire line of vintage-inspired barware. Bar cart essentials were some of the first things to fly off our registry and the under $100 price point will be appreciated by your guests.

2. Mirrored Tray (similar version $200):

You can never have enough trays. A mirrored style can instantly glam up a dull coffee table or cluttered counter. We have trays in every room of our home to keep everything neat, tidy and organized.

3. Simply Designz Bowls ($43):

The different textures combined with the unique metallic shade of these bowls will add a spark of interest to any neutral palate. The trio is perfect for nuts, dips and sauces or even outside the kitchen to keep trinkets or knick knacks organized.

4. Marchesa Caviar Gold Hostess Set ($105):

I loved the idea of having all gold flatware for our table settings, but since the hubby wasn’t sold on the trend, we comprised and went with classic Juliska silverware combined with a few sets of gold serving pieces.

5. Villeroy & Bosh Sushi Set ($170):

We are big fans of sushi carry out and having a set of washable chop sticks, soy sauce dishes and perfectly-sized plates makes sushi nights in much less of a mess.

6. Michael Aram Melamine Plates ($13):

They don’t look it, but these Michael Aram designed plates are melamine (plastic!) They are perfect for outdoor entertaining when you want to step it up from paper plates, but don’t want to have to worry about using anything breakable.

7. Pistachio KitchenAid ($499):

There is nothing like the beautiful rainbow of KitchenAid mixers to help you find your dream kitchen accent color AND help turn you into the Pinterest-perfect baker you always knew you could be. This is the prettiest thing in our kitchen.

8. Michael Aram Bowl ($179):

The brushed texture of the Michael Aram Frost Collection mixes perfectly with golds, coppers and silvers, so we chose a few different pieces from this line and use for both serving and decor.

9. Matching Storage Baskets ($229):

A set of coordinating storage baskets is something most couples forget to add to their registry. Choose a style that goes well with your home decor (we stuck with gray tones) and be grateful you have a solution to store those extra wedding gifts.

10. Lighting By Design Candlesticks ($58):

Some items are just a special treat, saved for a special occasion. These crystal candlesticks are just so, so pretty and one of those things that if we didn’t register for, we would never have bought for ourselves.

If you are looking for more registry inspiration check out our Pinterest Board with some more of what we registered for and some of this season’s must-haves.

This post is part of a new, exciting wedding collaboration with Macy’s.

Wedding Wednesday: Finding The Perfect Wedding Invitations

UniqueWeddingInvites

How to Make Them YOU!

– Choose elements you can carry through the entire wedding – a monogram, colors, fonts you can replicate for other paper goods, liner patterns, ribbon.  Make sure to request a JPG of any design elements you want to carry through when you order.

– The liner and edges of the invite are a fun place to add personality. Bella Figura (where we got ours!) even lets you upload your own images or prints for their envelope liners. We adore the metallic edges trend that everywhere lately. Go for bright pink or rose gold to keep it less formal and more fun!

– Let the invite express the formality of the wedding.  Include casual elements if you want a more laid back vibe.  We added a “Dinner, Dancing and Happily Ever After” to ensure everyone knew this would be a non-stuffy affair.

– It took us a LONG time to find the perfect invites, browse online, browse our Pinterest Board or the inspo mecca of OhSoBeautifulPaper.com and if you find a line you love, search where they sell locally.

Our Black + White Gold Foil Save the Dates

GoldFoilSaveTheDates

Save The Dates are the time when no matter how formal your affair, you can add some fun,  creativity or quirkiness into your paper goods.  You can full-on coordinate with your wedding invites, use an engagement photo or go totally unique and send a custom drawn caricature, custom tattoos, a confetti popper or a vintage postcard. This is perfect place to include your wedding website.

Ours are from Minted.com and foil stamps from Zazzle.
