Our wedding weekend was everything we ever dreamed of. It was an absolute fairy tale, dream come true, still can’t-believe-it-really-all-happened evening and I have felt like I could explode with happiness since the moment I walked down the aisle. I can’t wait to finally share some of the memories with all of you. We’ll be posting wedding themed posts with advice, things we’ve learned and tons of photos from our special day throughout the next few months, so make sure to keep checking back.
Our first post is full of what many of our guests told us they loved most about our wedding, the personal and personalized details that made our wedding “us”.
1. Hand Written Calligraphy Signs
We found these frames at a local flea market, spray painted them shiny gold and hired a calligraphy artist from RockPaperScissors to design. Our florist created floral garlands to frame each sign.
2. Indoor Garden Ceremony
This ceremony backdrop was created and dreamt up by my talented father of Great Oaks Landscape Associates. The entire ceremony felt like all of us were in the middle of a secret garden. It was magical.
3. “Pick Your Own” Blush Bridesmaid Dresses
I wanted each of my bridesmaids to love their dress and be able to express a little of their own personality, so each girl picked their own long blush dress, all different styles and fabrics. To tie it all together our florist used matching long blush ribbon in all of the bouquets.
4. Gold Foil Coasters & Cocktail Napkins
We had custom L&J and #ScheyYes gold foil cocktail napkins at the bars and were passed out with our signature drink. The coasters are from Etsy and are meant to be put on top of your drink. And of course, it wouldn’t be a Roberts family event without a top notch selection of single malt scotch.
5. K.S.S. Signature Drink
Jon and I always both order Ketel & Soda’s – I like lemon, he likes his with lime. Instead of dreaming up some fancy schmancy signature drink, we offered a “K.S.S.” – Ketel + Soda + a Swizzle Stick (the gold pom pom.) I designed the gold foil sign on photoshop.
6. You Look Gorgeous Ladies Room Mirror
This was a huge hit and a total last-minute idea by the creative genius and adorable mother of mine, Mindy (seen in the photo.) We used a flea market mirror and wrote in pink lipstick a note to all the ladies to remind them how gorgeous they looked.
7. Gold Foil Menu with a Little Personality
We kept our menu humorous, blush, foil stamped and as unstuffy as possible. The hit! Our “Midnight Snack – Leo’s Chicken Finger Pitas, with Ranch, of Course.” If you don’t know Leo’s you must not be from Metro Detroit. We designed the Menus and our programs on Minted. We’ll do a separate post on our paper goods soon!
9. Gold Calligraphy Table Numbers
We tried to keep the gold calligraphy theme going and keep things simple on the tables. The numbers were written in script from Etsy company, BetterOffWed.
10. Blush Lighting + Gold Centerpieces
Our florist, Breath of Spring, created these beautiful centerpieces with hydrangeas, roses and hanging greenery to continue with the indoor elegant garden vibe. We had gold stands and the most romantic shade of blush lighting.
11. White Dance Floor with Gold Decal
I had my heart set on a huge white dance floor from the moment I started planning. While one of our splurges, the WOW factor when you walked into the perfectly lit room made the atmosphere unforgettable. The stage was lined with white Hydrangea bushes.
12. Mr and Mrs Chair Signs
These Mr and Mrs Gold Calligraphy Chair signs were from the same Etsy site as our chair signs and cake topper, BetterOffWed.
13. 7 Layer Cake Wedding Cake
This was one of those ideas everyone told us was crazy, but ended up being a huge hit. Instead of the traditional wedding cake, we did a 3 tiered 7 Layer Cake (a traditional Jewish dessert and my hubby’s favorite!) It was DEVOURED. Our florist added some blush flowers and we topped it with a Mr and Mrs Schey Calligraphy cake topper from BetterOffWed.
14. LED Light Sticks + Red Heart Sunglasses
15. Glamorous + Fun Open Photo Booth
There is nothing more fun than a photo booth filled with props at any party. For props, we spray painted this gold frame from Ikea, had tons of glittered lips, mustaches and signs and had huge paper flowers from Michaels.
16. Dani Jar Layered Dessert Favors
Each Dani Jar has different layers of delicious desserts and we personalized the lid with our gold initials and a “A Sweet Ending to a New Beginning.” I designed the sign and got the frame at the flea market.
17. Happily Ever After Welcome Totes
We went a little crazy w/ our Welcome Totes, these were designed by Etsy artist ParisChicBoutique. We’ll save the details for a later post!
We hope this inspires you to find some unique ways to personalize your wedding! Next we’ll be writing how to make an amazing welcome tote, gifts we gave our wedding party, invites/stationery, decor, bridesmaids dresses, etc – lots of fun wedding ideas ahead!
